Charlottesville Police Academy

Charlottesville Police Academy

On September 18, 2008 Roger was one of only six graduates of the Charlottesville Police Academy, an eleven week course where he worked closely with all the  departments of the Charlottesville Police Force. The Academy is an effort of the Force’s Community Policing Initiative. The following departments were covered: Patrol, Neighborhood  Services, Investigations, Drug Enforcement, Forensics, Gangs, School Resource Officers, Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Traffic, Crime Prevention, 911 Emergency Communications Center, Support and Statistics, Hiring and Accreditation, Administrative Compliance, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, K-9 Operations and Firearms and Lethal Force.

Others graduating  were Jesse Bear, Victoria Cave, William Goldsmith, Melissa Ryanball and Cheryn Stone. Chief Timothy Longo and Sargeant Stephen Upman were the driving force behind the Citizens Police Academy. Roger’s next focus is fund raising for the Charlottesville Police Foundation in their efforts to purchase Taser’s for each police officer. Currently, we are about 15 short. Each Taser costs $800.
